        Hands-on SCIENCE
                                                   to public school children
Kindling children's innate excitement for science by harnessing the volunteerism of undergraduates

START (Students, Teachers, and Researchers Teach) Science, Inc. is a non-profit organization that aims to spark and keep aflame the excitement of public school children for science. Our aims include advocacy for youth in low socioeconomic areas and exposure to hands-on science activities for youth.

The program entails groups of College students leading hands-on science modules for classes of elementary school students. The activities are conducted with “START Leader” at each table of 3-4 students, allowing for more individualized attention.

The modules are collaboratively created alongside College students of each STEM related area, including Biology, Physics, Engineering, Health, Neuroscience and Chemistry. The kids conduct electroplating experiments, bacterial growth cultures, cyanoacrylate fingerprint development, and many other activities, learning the science behind these exciting hands-on projects. Dear Yeshiva Students,

I liked the way you taught us. You helped me learn in science. I enjoyed the rollercoaster.

You could have fun but at the same time you are still gaining a lot of knowledge by just doing, more than just reading out of a textbook.

It made a big difference, because we got all the focus from one person, rather than our teacher having to walk around the room telling us exactly what to do.
